The Gospel According To Luke
Chapter 1
Luke 1:1 Since many have undertaken to draw up a narrative concerning those matters that have been fulfilled among us,
Luke 1:2 just as they delivered them to us, who from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
Luke 1:3 it seemed good to me also, having completely investigated all things from the very beginning, to write them out for you in an orderly fashion, most excellent Theophilus,
Luke 1:4 that you might know the certainty of those things, in which you have been instructed.
Luke 1:5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
Luke 1:6 For they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Luke 1:7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both were now well advanced in years.
Luke 1:8 And it came to pass, that while he served as priest before God in the order of his division,
Luke 1:9 according to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
Luke 1:10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the time of incense.
Luke 1:11 And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
Luke 1:12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell on him.
Luke 1:13 But the angel said to him, fear not, Zacharias: for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will call his name John.
Luke 1:14 For you will have joy and gladness; and many will rejoice at his birth.
Luke 1:15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and will drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
Luke 1:16 For many of the children of Israel will he turn to the Lord their God.
Luke 1:17 And he will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
Luke 1:18 Then Zacharias said to the angel, how will I know this? For I am an old man and my wife well advanced in years.
Luke 1:19 So the angel answered and said to him, I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God; and have been sent to speak to you, and to show you this good news.
Luke 1:20 But, behold, you will be silent, and not able to speak, until the day that these things will be performed, because you have not believed my words, which will be fulfilled in their appropriate time.
Luke 1:21 So the people waited for Zacharias, and wondered why he lingered so long in the temple.
Luke 1:22 When he came out, he could not speak to them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he motioned to them, yet remained speechless.
Luke 1:23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his service were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
Luke 1:24 Then after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
Luke 1:25 thus has the Lord dealt with me in the days in which He looked on me, to remove my reproach among men.
Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
Luke 1:27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
Luke 1:28 And the angel came to her, and said, rejoice, you that are highly favored, the Lord is with you! Blessed are you among women!
Luke 1:29 When she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what type of greeting this was.
Luke 1:30 Then the angel said to her, fear not, Mary: for you have found favor with God.
Luke 1:31 And, behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bring out a Son, and will call His name JESUS.
Luke 1:32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God will give to Him the throne of His father David:
Luke 1:33 for He will reign over the house of Jacob into the New Covenant Age; and of His kingdom there will be no end.
Luke 1:34 Then Mary said to the angel, how will this be, since I am a virgin?
Luke 1:35 Then the angel answered and said to her, the Holy Spirit will be coming upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you. Therefore also that Holy One who will be conceived in you will be called the Son of God.
Luke 1:36 Now, behold, your cousin Elizabeth, she has also received a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
Luke 1:37 For with God nothing will be impossible.
Luke 1:38 So Mary said, behold the servant of the Lord; be it to me according to your word. So the angel departed from her.
Luke 1:39 Then Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah;
Luke 1:40 and entered into the house of Zacharias, and greeted Elizabeth.
Luke 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit:
Luke 1:42 so she spoke out with a loud voice, and said, blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
Luke 1:43 Now why is this to me that the mother of My Lord should come to me?
Luke 1:44 For, look, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.
Luke 1:45 And blessed is she that believed: for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.
Luke 1:46 So Mary said, my soul does magnify the Lord,
Luke 1:47 and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
Luke 1:48 For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden: for, behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed.
Luke 1:49 For He that is mighty has done to me great things; and holy is His name.
Luke 1:50 And His mercy is on them that fear Him from generation to generation.
Luke 1:51 He has showed strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
Luke 1:52 He has put down the mighty from their thrones and exalted them of low degree.
Luke 1:53 He has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich He has sent away empty.
Luke 1:54 He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
Luke 1:55 as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed forever.
Luke 1:56 And Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her own house.
Luke 1:57 Now Elizabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought out a son.
Luke 1:58 And her neighbors and her cousins heard how the Lord had showed great mercy on her; and they rejoiced with her.
Luke 1:59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
Luke 1:60 But his mother answered and said, Not so; for he will be called John.
Luke 1:61 Then they said to her, there is none of your relatives that is called by this name.
Luke 1:62 So they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
Luke 1:63 Then he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, his name is John. And they all marveled.
Luke 1:64 Immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, and praised God!
Luke 1:65 And fear came on all that dwelt around them: and all these sayings were reported abroad throughout all the hill country of Judea.
Luke 1:66 So they all that heard them kept them in their hearts, saying, what manner of child will this be? And the hand of the Lord was with him.
Luke 1:67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
Luke 1:68 blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for He has visited and redeemed His people,
Luke 1:69 and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David;
Luke 1:70 As He spoke through the mouth of His holy prophets, since the Old Covenant Age began:
Luke 1:71 that we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
Luke 1:72 to perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember His holy covenant;
Luke 1:73 the oath which He swore to our father Abraham,
Luke 1:74 that He would grant to us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, may serve Him without fear,
Luke 1:75 in holiness and righteousness before Him, all the days of our life.
Luke 1:76 And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest: for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways;
Luke 1:77 to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the forgiveness of their sins,
Luke 1:78 through the tender mercy of our God; with which the rising sun from on high has visited us,
Luke 1:79 to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Luke 1:80 So the Child grew, and grew strong in spirit, and was in deserted places until the day of His appearance to Israel.
Chapter 2
Luke 2:1 And in those days, Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the Roman world.
Luke 2:2 This census first took place when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.
Luke 2:3 And all went to be registered, everyone into his own city.
Luke 2:4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David:
Luke 2:5 to be registered with Mary his espoused wife, being great with Child.
Luke 2:6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were completed that she should be delivered.
Luke 2:7 And she brought out her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:8 So there were in the same country shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
Luke 2:9 Now, behold, the angel of the Lord stood over them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them: and they were intensely afraid.
Luke 2:10 But the angel said to them, fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which will be to all the people.
Luke 2:11 For to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:12 For this will be a sign to you; you will find the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
Luke 2:13 Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Luke 2:14 glory to God in the highest, and upon earth peace, His good pleasure in man.
Luke 2:15 And it came to pass, as the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, let us even now go to Bethlehem, and see this thing which has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.
Luke 2:16 So they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.
Luke 2:17 When they had seen Him, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this Child.
Luke 2:18 Then all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
Luke 2:19 But Mary treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart.
Luke 2:20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told to them.
Luke 2:21 So when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the Child, His name was called JESUS and that is the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
Luke 2:22 So when the days of her purification according to the Law of Moses were accomplished, they brought Him to Jerusalem, to present Him to the Lord;
Luke 2:23 (As it is written in the Law of the LORD, every male that opens the womb will be called holy to the Lord;)
Luke 2:24 and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the Law of the Lord, A pair of doves, or two young pigeons.
Luke 2:25 Now, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
Luke 2:26 For it was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
Luke 2:27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the Law,
Luke 2:28 Then he received Him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
Luke 2:29 Lord, now let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word:
Luke 2:30 for my eyes have seen Your salvation,
Luke 2:31 which You have prepared before the face of all people;
Luke 2:32 a light to bring revelation to the nations, and the glory of Your people Israel.
Luke 2:33 And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken about Him.
Luke 2:34 So Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, behold, this Child is destined for the fall and resurrection of many in Israel; and for a sign which will be contradicted;
Luke 2:35 (yes, a sword will go through your own soul also) that the thoughts of many hearts may have the veil removed.
Luke 2:36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher: she was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;
Luke 2:37 and she was then a widow until the age of eighty-four, who departed not from the temple, but with divine service to God in fastings and prayers night and day.
Luke 2:38 Then as she stood by herself acknowledged with thanksgiving to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all them that expected to receive redemption in Jerusalem.
Luke 2:39 And when they had performed all things according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
Luke 2:40 So the Child grew, and grew strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon Him.
Luke 2:41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.
Luke 2:42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
Luke 2:43 When they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the Child Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother did not know it.
Luke 2:44 But they, supposing Him to have been in their company, went a day’s journey; and they sought Him among their relatives and friends.
Luke 2:45 When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him.
Luke 2:46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
Luke 2:47 For all that heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
Luke 2:48 When they saw Him, they were amazed: and His mother said to him, Son, why have you done this to us? Look, your father and I have sought You in distress.
Luke 2:49 But He said to them, why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?
Luke 2:50 And they did not understand the saying which He spoke to them.
Luke 2:51 So He went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them: but His mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
Luke 2:52 For Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.
Chapter 3
Luke 3:1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilatebeing governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,
Luke 3:2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
Luke 3:3 Then he came into all the country around the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins;
Luke 3:4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, the voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare you the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.
Luke 3:5 Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be leveled; and the crooked will be straightened, and the rough ways will be made smooth;
Luke 3:6 and all flesh will see the salvation of God.
Luke 3:7 Then he said to the multitude that came out to be immersed by him, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath about to come?
Luke 3:8 Therefore bring forth fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say inside yourselves, we have Abraham as our father: for I say to you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
Luke 3:9 Now also the axe is laid to the root of the trees: Therefore, every tree which does not bring forth good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.
Luke 3:10 Then the people asked him, saying, what will we do then?
Luke 3:11 He answered and said to them, He that has two coats, let him give to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise.
Luke 3:12 Then also came tax collectors to be immersed, and said to him, Master, what will we do?
Luke 3:13 And he said to them, exact no more than that which is appointed you.
Luke 3:14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, and what will we do? And he said to them, do violence to no man, do not accuse anyone falsely; and be content with your wages.
Luke 3:15 So as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts of John, whether he was the Christ, or not;
Luke 3:16 John answered, saying to them all, I indeed immerse you with water; but one mightier than I comes, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie: He will immerse you with the Holy Spirit and with fire:
Luke 3:17 whose fan is in His hand, for He will thoroughly purge His floor, and will gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.
Luke 3:18 Then with many other exhortations he preached to the people.
Luke 3:19 But Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by him for Herodias his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,
Luke 3:20 Added yet this above all, that he put John in prison.
Luke 3:21 Now when all the people were immersed, it came to pass, that Jesus also being immersed, and praying, that heaven was opened,
Luke 3:22 And the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.
Luke 3:23 And Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, who was the son of Heli,
Luke 3:24 who was the son of Matthat, who was the son of Levi, who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Janna, who was the son of Joseph,
Luke 3:25 who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Amos, who was the son of Nahum, who was the son of Esli, who was the son of Naggai,
Luke 3:26 who was the son of Maath, who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Semein, who was the son of Joseph, who was the son of Judah,
Luke 3:27 who was the son of Joanna, who was the son of Rhesa, who was the son of Zerubbabel, who was the son of Salathiel, who was the son of Neri,
Luke 3:28 who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Addi, who was the son of Cosam, who was the son of Elmodam, who was the son of Er,
Luke 3:29 who was the son of Joshua, who was the son of Eliezer, who was the son of Jorim, who was the son of Matthat, who was the son of Levi,
Luke 3:30 who was the son of Simeon, who was the son of Judah, who was the son of Joseph, who was the son of Jonam, who was the son of Eliakim,
Luke 3:31 who was the son of Melea, who was the son of Menna, who was the son of Mattatha, who was the son of Nathan, who was the son of David,
Luke 3:32 who was the son of Jesse, who was the son of Obed, who was the son of Boaz, who was the son of Salmon, who was the son of Naasson,
Luke 3:33 who was the son of Aminadab, who was the son of Aram, who was the son of Hezrom, who was the son of Pharez, who was the son of Judah,
Luke 3:34 who was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham, who was the son of Terah, who was the son of Nachor,
Luke 3:35 who was the son of Serug, who was the son of Reu, who was the son of Peleg, who was the son of Eber, who was the son of Nahor,
Luke 3:36 who was the son of Cainan, who was the son of Arphaxad, who was the son of Shem, who was the son of Noah, who was the son of Lamech,
Luke 3:37 who was the son of Methuselah, who was the son of Enoch, who was the son of Jared, who was the son of Maleleel, who was the son of Cainan,
Luke 3:38 who was the son of Enosh, who was the son of Seth, who was the son of Adam, who was the son of God.
Chapter 4
Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
Luke 4:2 being forty days tempted by the Devil. And in those days, He did not eat anything: and when they were finished, He afterward became hungry.
Luke 4:3 Then the Devil said to him, if you are the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, it is written, that man will not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
Luke 4:5 Then the Devil, taking Him up on a high mountain showed Him all the kingdoms of the Roman world in a point of time.
Luke 4:6 And the Devil said to Him, all this power will I give You and the glory of them: for that is delivered to me; and to whomever I will, I give it.
Luke 4:7 Therefore if You will worship me, all will be Yours.
Luke 4:8 But Jesus answered and said to him, get behind Me, Satan: for it is written, you will worship the Lord your God, and Him only will you serve.
Luke 4:9 So he brought Him to Jerusalem, and set Him on a pinnacle of the temple and said to Him, if you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here:
Luke 4:10 for it is written, He will give His angels charge over You, to protect You:
Luke 4:11 and in their hands they will bear You up, unless at any time You strike Your foot against a stone.
Luke 4:12 But Jesus answered and said to him, it is said, you will not tempt the Lord your God.
Luke 4:13 When the Devil had finished every temptation, he departed from Him for an appropriate season.
Luke 4:14 Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee: and there went out a fame of Him through all the surrounding region.
Luke 4:15 And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
Luke 4:16 Then He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
Luke 4:17 So there was handed to Him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written,
Luke 4:18 the Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free into forgiveness those who are oppressed,
Luke 4:19 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 4:20 As He closed the book, and He gave it again to the attendant, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on Him.
Luke 4:21 And He began to say to them, today this Scripture is fulfilled in your ears.
Luke 4:22 And all bore Him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, is not this Joseph’s son?
Luke 4:23 Then He said to them, you will surely say to Me this proverb, physician, heal yourself: whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in your country.
Luke 4:24 And He said, truthfully I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country.
Luke 4:25 But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
Luke 4:26 but to none of them was Elijah sent, except to Sarepta, a city of Sidon, to a woman that was a widow.
Luke 4:27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, except Naaman the Syrian.
Luke 4:28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,
Luke 4:29 and rose up, and thrust Him out of the city, and led Him to the edge of the hill on which their city was built, that they might cast Him down headlong.
Luke 4:30 But He passing through the midst of them went His way,
Luke 4:31 and came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath days.
Luke 4:32 And they were astonished at His doctrine: for His word was with power.
Luke 4:33 For in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean demon, and cried out with a loud voice,
Luke 4:34 saying, let us alone; what have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are; the Holy One of God!
Luke 4:35 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, hold your peace, and come out of him. And when the demon had thrown him in the midst, it came out of him, and did not hurt him.
Luke 4:36 Then they were all amazed, and spoke among themselves, saying, what word is this! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.
Luke 4:37 So the fame of Him went out into every place of the surrounding country.
Luke 4:38 And He arose out of the synagogue and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was sick with a high fever; and they sought Him for her.
Luke 4:39 And He stood over her and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and served them.
Luke 4:40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on each one of them and healed them.
Luke 4:41 And demons also came out of many, crying out, and saying, You are the Christ, the Son of God! But He rebuked them and permitted them not to speak for they knew that He was the Christ.
Luke 4:42 When it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place: and the people sought Him, and came to Him, and restrained Him that He should not depart from them.
Luke 4:43 But He said to them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for this purpose I have been sent.
Luke 4:44 And He preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
Chapter 5
Luke 5:1 And it came to pass, that as the people pressed on Him to hear the word of God, He stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
Luke 5:2 and saw two boats standing by the lake: but the fishermen were not in them, but were washing their nets.
Luke 5:3 So He entered into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to push out a little from the land. And He sat down, and taught the people from the boat.
Luke 5:4 When He was done speaking, He said to Simon, launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch.
Luke 5:5 Simon answered and said to Him, Master, we have worked all night, and have caught nothing: nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.
Luke 5:6 When they had this done, they caught a great multitude of fish: and their net broke.
Luke 5:7 Then they signaled to their partners, which were in the other boat, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink!
Luke 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knee, and said, depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
Luke 5:9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the catch of fish which they had caught:
Luke 5:10 so also was James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. But Jesus said to Simon fear not; from now on you will be catching men.
Luke 5:11 When they had brought their boats to land, they left all and followed Him.
Luke 5:12 And it came to pass, when He was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on His face, and sought Him, saying, Lord, if You will, you can make me clean.
Luke 5:13 And He put out His hand, and touched him, saying, I will: you are clean. Immediately the leprosy left him.
Luke 5:14 And He charged him to tell no man: but go, and show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.
Luke 5:15 But so much more went there a fame abroad of Him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their sicknesses.
Luke 5:16 So He withdrew Himself to the wilderness, and prayed.
Luke 5:17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the Law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
Luke 5:18 Now, behold, men brought on a bed a man who was a paralytic: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before Him.
Luke 5:19 But when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went on the housetop, and let him down through the tiles with his mat into the midst before Jesus.
Luke 5:20 When He saw their faith, He said to him, man, your sins are forgiven!
Luke 5:21 So the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, whom is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
Luke 5:22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered and said to them, why are you reasoning in your hearts?
Luke 5:23 Which is easier, to say, your sins be forgiven; or to say, rise up and walk?
Luke 5:24 But that you may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins, (He said to the paralytic,) I say to you, arise, and take up your mat, and go into your house.
Luke 5:25 Immediately he rose up before them, and took up that which he had been lying on, and left to his own house, glorifying God.
Luke 5:26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, we have seen strange things today!
Luke 5:27 After these things He went out, and saw a tax collector, named Levi, sitting at the tax booth: and He said to him, follow Me.
Luke 5:28 Then he left all, rose up, and followed Him.
Luke 5:29 And Levi made Him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of tax collectors and of others that sat down with them.
Luke 5:30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against His disciples, saying, why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?
Luke 5:31 Then Jesus answered and said to them, they that are healthy do not need a doctor; but they that are sick.
Luke 5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Luke 5:33 So they said to Him, why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but Yours eat and drink?
Luke 5:34 So He said to them, can you make the guests of the bridegroom fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
Luke 5:35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then will they fast in those days.
Luke 5:36 And He spoke also a parable to them; no man puts a piece of a new garment on an old; or else, then the new makes a tear, and the piece that was taken out of the new does not agree with the old.
Luke 5:37 And no man puts new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles will perish.
Luke 5:38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.
Luke 5:39 No man also having drunk old wine immediately desires new: for he says, the old is better.
Chapter 6
Luke 6:1 And it came to pass on the second Sabbath after the first, that He went through the corn fields; and His disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
Luke 6:2 And certain of the Pharisees said to them, why do You do that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath days?
Luke 6:3 Then Jesus answered them and said, have you not read so much as this, what David did, when himself being hungry, and they who were with him;
Luke 6:4 how he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the show bread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?
Luke 6:5 And He said to them, that the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
Luke 6:6 And it came to pass also on another Sabbath that He entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
Luke 6:7 So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him, whether He would heal on the Sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against Him.
Luke 6:8 But He knew their thoughts and said to the man who had the withered hand, rise up, and stand out in the midst. And he arose and stood out.
Luke 6:9 Then said Jesus to them, I will ask you one thing; is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil, to save life, or to destroy it?
Luke 6:10 Then looking around on them all, He said to the man, stretch out your hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
Luke 6:11 And they were filled with angry madness; and talked with one another what they might do to Jesus.
Luke 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that He went out to a mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God.
Luke 6:13 When it was day, He called to Him His disciples: and of them He chose twelve, whom also He named apostles;
Luke 6:14 Simon, whom he also named Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
Luke 6:15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
Luke 6:16 and Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, whom also was the traitor.
Luke 6:17 Then He came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of His disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him, and to be healed of their diseases;
Luke 6:18 and they that were troubled with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
Luke 6:19 For the whole multitude sought to touch Him: for there went power out of Him and healed them all.
Luke 6:20 Then He lifted up His eyes on His disciples, and said, blessed be the poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
Luke 6:21 Blessed are you that hunger now: for you will be filled. Blessed are you that weep now: for you will laugh.
Luke 6:22 Blessed are you, when men will hate you, and when they will exclude you from their company, and will revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.
Luke 6:23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy! For, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner their fathers did to the prophets.
Luke 6:24 But woe to you that are rich! For you have received your comfort.
Luke 6:25 Woe to you that are full! For you will hunger. Woe to you that laugh now! For you will mourn and weep.
Luke 6:26 Woe to you, when all men shall speak well of you! For so their fathers did to the false prophets.
Luke 6:27 But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to them who hate you,
Luke 6:28 bless them that curse you, and pray for them who spitefully use you.
Luke 6:29 And to him that strikes you on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that takes away your cloak forbid not to take your coat also.
Luke 6:30 Give to every man that asks of you; and of him that takes away your goods do not demand them back.
Luke 6:31 And as you would that men should do to you, do you also to them likewise.
Luke 6:32 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? for sinners also love those that love them.
Luke 6:33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what reward do you have? For sinners also do even the same.
Luke 6:34 And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what reward do you have? For sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing back; and your reward will be great, and you will be the sons of the Highest: for He is kind even to the unthankful and to the evil.
Luke 6:36 Therefore be merciful as your Father also is merciful.
Luke 6:37 Judge not, and you will not be judged: condemn not, and you will not be condemned: forgive, and you will be forgiven:
Luke 6:38 give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, will men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use it will be measured back to you again.
Luke 6:39 And He spoke a parable to them, can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?
Luke 6:40 The disciple is not above his master: but everyone that is mature will be as his master.
Luke 6:41 And why do you behold the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but perceive not the beam that is in your own eye?
Luke 6:42 Either how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the splinter that is in your eye, when you yourself behold not the joist that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, take out first the joist out of your own eye, and then will you see clearly to pull out the splinter that is in your brother’s eye.
Luke 6:43 For a good tree does not bring forth bad fruit; neither does a bad tree bring forth good fruit.
Luke 6:44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a thorn bush do they gather grapes.
Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Luke 6:46 And why do you call me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Luke 6:47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings, and does them, I will show you to who he is like:
Luke 6:48 he is like a man which built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat repeatedly on that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded on a rock.
Luke 6:49 But he that hears, and does not, is like a man that without a foundation built a house on the soil; which the stream did burst against it, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Chapter 7
Luke 7:1 Now when He had finished all His sayings in the audience of the people, He entered into Capernaum.
Luke 7:2 And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick, and about to die.
Luke 7:3 When he heard of Jesus, he sent to Him the elders of the Jews, begging Him that He would come and heal his servant.
Luke 7:4 When they came to Jesus, they sought Him instantly, saying, that he was worthy for whom he should do this:
Luke 7:5 for he loves our nation, and he has built us a synagogue.
Luke 7:6 Then Jesus went with them. When He was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to him, Lord, trouble not Yourself: for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof:
Luke 7:7 Therefore neither thought I myself worthy to come to You: but say the word, and my servant will be healed.
Luke 7:8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, do this, and he does it.
Luke 7:9 When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned him around, and said to the people that followed Him, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!
Luke 7:10 Then they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant healthy that had been sick.
Luke 7:11 And it came to pass the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and many people.
Luke 7:12 Now when He came close to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and many people of the city were with her.
Luke 7:13 When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her, and said to her, weep not.
Luke 7:14 Then He came and touched the open coffin: and they that carried him stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, Arise.
Luke 7:15 So he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And He delivered him to his mother.
Luke 7:16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, that a great prophet is risen up among us; and, that God has visited His people!
Luke 7:17 And this report of Him went out throughout all Judea, and throughout the entire surrounding region.
Luke 7:18 And the disciples of John showed him of all these things.
Luke 7:19 So John called to him two of his disciples and sent them to Jesus, and said, are you He that should come, or do we look for another?
Luke 7:20 When the men had come to Him, they said, John the Baptist has sent us to You saying, are you He that should come, or do we look for another?
Luke 7:21 And in that same hour He cured many of their infirmities and sicknesses, and of evil spirits; and to many that were blind He gave sight.
Luke 7:22 Then Jesus began to say to them, go your way, and tell John what things you have seen and heard; that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
Luke 7:23 And blessed is he who is not stumbled in Me.
Luke 7:24 So when the messengers of John were departed, He began to speak to the people concerning John, what went you out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
Luke 7:25 But what went you out for to see? A man clothed in fine clothing? Behold, they whom are gorgeously appareled, and live luxuriously, are in kings’ courts.
Luke 7:26 But what went you out for to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you and much more than a prophet.
Luke 7:27 This is he, of whom it is written, behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.
Luke 7:28 For I say to you, among those that are born of women there is no one greater than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
Luke 7:29 And all the people that heard Him, and the tax collectors, justified God, being immersed with the baptism of John.
Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, not being immersed by him.
Luke 7:31 And the Lord said, what then will I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like?
Luke 7:32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, we played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we mourned to you, and you did not weep.
Luke 7:33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you said, he has a demon.
Luke 7:34 The Son of man came eating and drinking; and you said, behold a gluttonous man, and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!
Luke 7:35 But wisdom is justified by all her children.
Luke 7:36 And one of the Pharisees wanted Him to eat with him. And He went into the Pharisee’s house and sat down to eat.
Luke 7:37 And, behold, a woman in the city, who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat to eat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
Luke 7:38 and stood at His feet behind him weeping, and began to wash His feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed His feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
Luke 7:39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, this man, if He were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches Him: for she is a sinner.
Luke 7:40 Then Jesus answered and said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he said, Master, say on.
Luke 1:41 There was a certain creditor who had two debtors: the one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
Luke 7:42 When they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Therefore, tell me, which of them will love him most?
Luke 7:43 Simon answered and said, I suppose he to whom he forgave most. Then He said to him, you have rightly judged.
Luke 7:44 And he turned to the woman, and said to Simon, see this woman? I entered into your house, and you gave me no water for My feet: but she has washed My feet with tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head.
Luke 7:45 You gave me no kiss: but this woman, since the time I came in, has not stopped kissing My feet.
Luke 7:46 My head with oil you did not anoint: but this woman has anointed My feet with ointment.
Luke 7:47 Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loves much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.
Luke 7:48 And He said to her, your sins are forgiven.
Luke 7:49 Then they that sat to eat with Him began to say within themselves, who is this that forgives sins also?
Luke 7:50 And He said to the woman, your faith has saved you; go in peace.
Chapter 8
Luke 8:1 And it came to pass afterward, that He went throughout every city and village, preaching and showing the good news of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with Him,
Luke 8:2 and certain women, who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses, Mary called Magdalene, out of who went seven demons,
Luke 8:3 and Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for Him out of their possessions.
Luke 8:4 When many people had gathered together, and had come to Him out of every city, He spoke by a parable:
Luke 8:5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell beside the way; and it was stepped on, and the birds of the air devoured it.
Luke 8:6 And some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
Luke 8:7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it.
Luke 8:8 But others fell on good ground, and sprang up, and produced fruit a hundred-fold. When He had said these things, He cried, He that has ears to hear let him hear!
Luke 8:9 And His disciples asked Him, saying, what may this parable mean?
Luke 8:10 So He said, to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God.
Luke 8:12 Those beside the way are they that hear; then comes the Devil, and takes away the word out of their hearts, unless they should believe and be saved.
Luke 8:13 They on the rock are they, who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root who for a season believe, but in time of temptation fall away.
Luke 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, who, when they have heard, go out, and are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity.
Luke 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in a noble and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
Luke 8:16 No man, when he has lit a candle, covers it with a bowl, or puts it under a bed; but sets it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
Luke 8:17 For nothing is secret, that will not be made manifest; neither anything hidden, that will not be known and come out into the open.
Luke 8:18 Therefore take heed how you hear: for whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever has not, from him will be taken away even that which he seems to have.
Luke 8:19 Then came to Him His mother and His brothers, and could not come to Him because of the crowd.
Luke 8:20 And it was told Him by some who said, Your mother and Your brothers stand outside, wanting to see You.
Luke 8:21 And He answered and said to them, My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God, and do it.
Luke 8:22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that He went into a boat with His disciples: and He said to them, let us cross to the other side of the lake. And they launched out.
Luke 8:23 But as they sailed He fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in danger.
Luke 8:24 So they came to Him, and woke Him, and said, Master, Master, we are perishing. Then He arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they stopped, and there was a calm.
Luke 8:25 Then He said to them, where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, what manner of man is this? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!
Luke 8:26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee.
Luke 8:27 when He went out to land, there met Him out of the city a certain man, who had demons a long time, and wore no clothes, neither lived in any house, but in the tombs.
Luke 8:28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, what have I to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God most high? I beg You, do not torment me!
Luke 8:29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had taken him: and he was kept bound with chains and in shackles; but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demons into the wilderness.
Luke 8:30 Then Jesus asked him, and said, what is your name? And he said, Legion: because many demons had entered him.
Luke 8:31 So they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss.
Luke 8:32 There was a herd of many pigs feeding on the mountain: and they begged Him that He would permit them to enter into them. And He permitted them.
Luke 8:33 Then went the demons out of the man and entered into the pigs: and the herd ran violently down the slope into the lake and drowned.
Luke 8:34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city, and in the country.
Luke 8:35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of who the demons had left, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
Luke 8:36 They also who saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the demons was healed.
Luke 8:37 Then the whole multitude of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes begged Him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and He went up into the boat and returned.
Luke 8:38 Now the man out of who the demons were departed begged Him that he may stay with Him: but Jesus sent him away, and said,
Luke 8:39 Return to your own house, and show what great things God has done to you. So, he went his way, and announced throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done to him.
Luke 8:40 It came to pass that when Jesus returned, the people gladly received Him: for they were all waiting for Him.
Luke 8:41 Now, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus’ feet, and begged Him that he would come into his house:
Luke 8:42 for he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay dying. But as He went the people crushed Him.
Luke 8:43 And a woman having a flow of blood twelve years, who had spent all her money on physicians, neither could be healed by any,
Luke 8:44 Came behind Him, and touched the edge of His cloak: and immediately her flow of blood stopped.
Luke 8:45 And Jesus said, who touched Me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude holds on to You and press You, yet You say, who touched Me?
Luke 8:46 Yet Jesus said, somebody has touched Me: for I perceive that power is gone out of Me.
Luke 8:47 When the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before Him, she declared to Him before all the people for what reason she had touched Him, and how she was healed immediately.
Luke 8:48 He said to her, daughter, be of good comfort: your faith has made you healthy; go in peace.
Luke 8:49 While He yet spoke, there came one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to Him, your daughter is dead, trouble not the Master.
Luke 8:50 But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, and said, fear not: only believe, and she will be made healthy.
Luke 8:51 When He came into the house, He permitted no man to go in, except Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the girl.
Luke 8:52 For all wept, and mourned her: but He said, weep not; she is not dead, but sleeps.
Luke 8:53 But they laughed Him to scorn, knowing she was dead.
Luke 8:54 And He put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, girl, arise.
Luke 8:55 And her spirit came again, and she arose immediately: and He commanded to give her food.
Luke 8:56 And her parents were astonished: but He charged them that they should tell no man what was done.
Chapter 9
Luke 9:1 Then He called His twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.
Luke 9:2 And He sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
Luke 9:3 For He said to them, take nothing for your journey, neither staff, nor bags, neither bread, neither money; neither have an extra tunic.
Luke 9:4 And whatever house you enter into stay there and from there depart.
Luke 9:5 For whoever will not receive you, when you go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
Luke 9:6 Then they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing everywhere.
Luke 9:7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by Him: and he was perplexed, because it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead;
Luke 9:8 and of some, that Elijah had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.
Luke 9:9 But Herod said, John have I beheaded: but whom is this, of whom I hear such things? And he wanted to see Him.
Luke 9:10 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. And He took them, and went aside secretly into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.
Luke 9:11 So the people, when they knew it, followed Him: and He received them, and spoke to them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.
Luke 9:12 When the day began to wear away then came the twelve, and said to Him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and surrounding country, and sleep, and get provisions: for we are here in a deserted place.
Luke 9:13 But He said to them, give them something to eat. And they said, we have no more but five loaves and two fishes; unless we should go and buy food for all these people.
Luke 9:14 For they were about five thousand men. And He said to His disciples, make them sit down in groups of fifties.
Luke 9:15 And they did so and made them all sit down.
Luke 9:16 Then He took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, He blessed them, and broke, and gave to the disciples to place before the multitude.
Luke 9:17 Then they did eat and were all filled: and twelve baskets of fragments that remained there were taken up by them.
Luke 9:18 And it came to pass, as He was alone praying, His disciples were with Him: and He asked them, saying, who do the people say that I am?
Luke 9:19 They answered and said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
Luke 9:20 He said to them, but who do you say that I am? Peter answered and said, the Christ of God!
Luke 9:21 And He strictly instructed them and commanded them to tell no man that thing;
Luke 9:22 saying, the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
Luke 9:23 And He said to them all, if anyone will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
Luke 9:24 For whoever will save his life will lose it: but whoever will lose his life for My sake, the same will save it.
Luke 9:25 For what is a man’s advantage, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
Luke 9:26 For whoever will be ashamed of Me and of My words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed, when He comes in His glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.
Luke 9:27 But I tell you truly, there are some standing here, who will not taste death, until they see the kingdom of God!
Luke 9:28 And it came to pass about eight days after these sayings, He led Peter and John and James, and went up to a mountain to pray.
Luke 9:29 And as He prayed, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothing was white and glistening.
Luke 9:30 Now, behold, there talked with Him two men, who were Moses and Elijah:
Luke 9:31 who appeared in glory, and spoke about His death which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Luke 9:32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw His glory, and the two men that stood with Him.
Luke 9:33 And it came to pass, as they departed from Him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah: not knowing what he said.
Luke 9:34 While he was speaking, there came a cloud and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.
Luke 9:35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, this is My beloved Son: hear Him!
Luke 9:36 When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it a secret, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
Luke 9:37 And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they had come down from the hill, many people met Him.
Luke 9:38 Now, behold, a man of the crowd cried out, saying, Master, I beg you, look on my son: for he is my only child.
Luke 9:39 And, look, a spirit takes him, and he suddenly cries out; and it convulses him that he foams again, and bruising him hardly departs from him.
Luke 9:40 And I asked Your disciples to cast him out; and they could not.
Luke 9:41 Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long will I be with you, and tolerate you? Bring your son here.
Luke 9:42 Yet as he was coming, the demon threw him down, and convulsed him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
Luke 9:43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered everyone at all things which Jesus did, He said to His disciples,
Luke 9:44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.
Luke 9:45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hidden from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask Him about it.
Luke 9:46 Then there arose a reasoning among them, whom of them should be greatest.
Luke 9:47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their hearts, led a child, and placed him by Him,
Luke 9:48 and said to them, whoever will receive this child in My name receives Me: and whoever will receive Me receives Him that sent Me: for he that is least among you all, the same will be great.
Luke 9:49 So John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in Your name; and we forbade him, because he follows not with us.
Luke 9:50 But Jesus said to him, forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
Luke 9:51 And it came to pass, when the time had come that He should be received up, He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem,
Luke 9:52 and sent messengers before His face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for Him.
Luke 9:53 And they did not receive Him, because His face was as though He would go to Jerusalem.
Luke 9:54 When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, will You that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, just as Elijah did?
Luke 9:55 But He turned, and rebuked them, and said, you know not what manner of spirit you are of.
Luke 9:56 For the Son of man has not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
Luke 9:57 Now it happened, that, as they went on the way, someone said to Him, Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.
Luke 9:58 But Jesus said to Him, foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay His head.
Luke 9:59 Then He said to another, follow me. But he said, Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.
Luke 9:60 Jesus said to him, let the dead bury their dead: but you go and preach the kingdom of God.
Luke 9:61 Yet another also said, Lord, I will follow You; but let me first go say goodbye to them, who are at home at my house.
Luke 9:62 But Jesus said to him, no man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Chapter 10
Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place, to where He Himself was about to come.
Luke 10:2 Therefore said He to them, the harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest that He would send out laborers into His harvest.
Luke 10:3 Go your ways: behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.
Luke 10:4 Carry neither purse, nor bag, nor sandals: and greet no man on the way.
Luke 10:5 And into whatever house you enter, first say, peace be to this house.
Luke 10:6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it: if not, it will return to you.
Luke 10:7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
Luke 10:8 And into whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are placed before you:
Luke 10:9 and heal the sick that are in it, and say to them, the kingdom of God has come near to you.
Luke 10:10 But into whatever city you enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
Luke 10:11 Even the very dust of your city, which clings to us, we do wipe off against you: Nevertheless be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near to you.
Luke 10:12 But I say to you, that it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
Luke 10:13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
Luke 10:14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
Luke 10:15 And you, Capernaum, which are exalted to heaven, will be thrust down to the unseen realm.
Luke 10:16 He that hears you hears Me; and he that rejects you rejects Me; and he that rejects Me rejects Him that sent Me.
Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, and said, Lord, even the demons are subject to us through Your name.
Luke 10:18 And He said to them, I was watching closely Satan falling like lightning from the heavens.
Luke 10:19 Behold, I give to you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing will by any means hurt you.
Luke 10:20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Luke 10:21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to little children: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in Your sight.
Luke 10:22 All things are delivered to Me by My Father: and no man knows who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and He to whom the Son will reveal Him.
Luke 10:23 And He turned to His disciples, and said secretly, blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see:
Luke 10:24 for I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.
Luke 10:25 Now, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tested Him, saying, Master, what should I do to inherit infinite life?
Luke 10:26 He said to him, what is written in the Law? How do you read it?
Luke 10:27 And he answered and said, you will love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
Luke 10:28 And He said to him, you have answered right: do this, and you will live.
Luke 10:29 But he, willing to justify himself, said to Jesus, and who is my neighbor?
Luke 10:30 And Jesus answering said, a certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, and wounded him, and left, leaving him half dead.
Luke 10:31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
Luke 10:32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
Luke 10:33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
Luke 10:34 and went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and placed him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
Luke 10:35 Then on the next day when he left, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said to him, take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return, I will repay you.
Luke 10:36 Who now of these three, do you think was neighbor to him that fell among the thieves?
Luke 10:37 And he said, he that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus to him, go, and do likewise.
Luke 10:38 Now it came to pass, as they went that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received Him into her house.
Luke 10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard His word.
Luke 10:40 But Martha was burdened by much serving, and came to Him, and said, Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.
Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things:
Luke 10:42 But one thing is necessary: and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.
Chapter 11
Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as He was praying in a certain place, when He stopped, one of His disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
Luke 11:2 And He said to them, when you pray, say, Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven.
Luke 11:3 Give us today our daily bread.
Luke 11:4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive everyone that sins against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
Luke 11:5 And He said to them, which one of you will have a friend, and will go to him at midnight, and say to him, friend, lend me three loaves;
Luke 11:6 for a friend of mine in his journey has come to me, and I have nothing to place before him?
Luke 11:7 And he from inside will answer and say, trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give anything to you.
Luke 11:8 I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him, because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as much as he needs.
Luke 11:9 And I say to you, ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Luke 11:10 For everyone that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it will be opened.
Luke 11:11 If a son will ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of the fish?
Luke 11:12 Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
Luke 11:13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?
Luke 11:14 And he was casting out a demon, and it was mute. And it came to pass, when the demon had gone out, the mute spoke; and the people wondered.
Luke 11:15 But some of them said, He casts out demons through Beelzebub the chief of the demons.
Luke 11:16 And others, tempting Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven.
Luke 11:17 But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them, every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against itself falls.
Luke 11:18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? Because you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebub.
Luke 11:19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out demons, by who do your sons cast them out? Therefore will they be your judges.
Luke 11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you!
Luke 11:21 When a strong man fully armed guards his home, his possessions are safe:
Luke 11:22 But when a stronger than he will come upon him, and overcome him, he takes from him all his armor in which he trusted, and divide his spoils.
Luke 11:23 He that is not with Me is against Me: and he that gathers not with Me scatters.
Luke 1:24 When an unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, I will return to my house from where I came out.
Luke 11:25 When he comes, he finds it swept and put in order.
Luke 11:26 Then goes he, and takes to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
Luke 11:27 And it came to pass, as He spoke these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said to Him, blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!
Luke 11:28 But He said, more than that, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and obey it.
Luke 11:29 When the people were gathered thick together, He began to say, this is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there will no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet.
Luke 11:30 For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of man will be to this generation.
Luke 11:31 The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
Luke 11:32 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, a greater than Jonah is here.
Luke 11:33 No man, when he has lit a candle, puts it in a secret place, neither under a bowl, but on a candlestick, that they who come in may see the light.
Luke 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: Therefore when your eye is bright, your whole body also is full of light; but when your eye is evil, your body also is full of darkness.
Luke 11:35 Therefore take heed that the light which is in you be not darkness.
Luke 11:36 Therefore if your whole body be full of light, having no part dark, the total will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle does give you light.
Luke 11:37 And as He spoke, a certain Pharisee asked Him to dine with him: and He went in, and sat down to eat.
Luke 11:38 When the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that He had not first washed before dinner.
Luke 11:39 But the Lord said to him, now do you Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the dish; but your inward part is full of greed and wickedness.
Luke 11:40 You fools, did not He that made that which is outside make that which is inside also?
Luke 11:41 But rather give from within philanthropically; and, behold, all things are clean to you.
Luke 11:42 But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these you ought to have done, and not abandoning the other things.
Luke 11:43 Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
Luke 11:44 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are as graves which are unmarked, and men walk over them are not aware of them.
Luke 11:45 Then answered one of the lawyers, and said to Him, Master, these saying insult us too.
Luke 11:46 And He said, woe to you also, you lawyers! For you load men with burdens difficult to bear, and you yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.
Luke 11:47 Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers murdered them.
Luke 1:48 Truly you bear witness that you approve the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed murdered them, and you build their tombs.
Luke 11:49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute:
Luke 11:50 that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed because of the downfall of the world, may be required of this generation;
Luke 11:51 From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias who perished between the altar and the temple: truthfully I say to you, it will be required of this generation.
Luke 11:52 Woe to you, lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge: You entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in you hindered.
Luke 11:53 And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile, and to cross-examine Him about many things:
Luke 11:54 laying wait for Him, and seeking to catch something out of His mouth, that they might accuse Him.
Chapter 12
Luke 12:1 In the meantime, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Luke 12:2 For there is nothing covered, that will not be revealed; nor hidden, that will not be known.
Luke 12:3 Therefore whatever you have spoken in darkness will be heard in the light; and that which you have spoken in the ear in closets will be proclaimed upon the housetops.
Luke 12:4 And I say to you My friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
Luke 12:5 But I will show you who you will fear: fear Him, who after He has killed has power to cast you into Gehenna; yes, I say to you, fear Him.
Luke 12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins, and not one of them is forgotten by God?
Luke 12:7 As a matter of fact, even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore fear not: you are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:8 Also I say to you, whoever will confess Me before men, him will the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
Luke 12:9 but he that denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.
Luke 12:10 And whoever will speak a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him: but to him that blasphemes against the Holy Spirit it will not be forgiven.
Luke 12:11 When they bring you to the synagogues, and to the Sanhedrin and rulers, take no thought how or what thing you will answer, or what you will say:
Luke 12:12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you in the same hour what you ought to say.
Luke 12:13 And one in the crowd said to Him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
Luke 12:14 And He said to him, man, who made Me a judge or a ruler over you?
Luke 12:15 And He said to them, take heed, and beware of greed: for a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses.
Luke 12:16 And He spoke a parable to them, saying, the ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
Luke 12:17 and he thought within himself, saying, what will I do, because I have no room where to store my crops?
Luke 12:18 So he said, this is what I will do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there I will store all my crops and my goods.
Luke 12:19 And I will say to my soul, soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
Luke 12:20 But God said to him, you fool, this night your soul will be required of you: then who will own those things, which you have provided?
Luke 12:21 So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Luke 12:22 And He said to His disciples, therefore I say to you, take no thought for your life, what you will eat; neither for the body, what you will wear.
Luke 12:23 The life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.
Luke 12:24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; who neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them: how much more are you better than the birds?
Luke 12:25 Which one of you by worrying can add one hour to his life?
Luke 12:26 If you then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take you thought for the rest?
Luke 12:27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they work not, they spin not; and yet I say to you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Luke 12:28 If then God so clothes the grass, which is today in the field, and the next day is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?
Luke 12:29 And seek not you what you will eat, or what you will drink, neither be of doubtful mind.
Luke 12:30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and Your Father knows that you have need of these things.
Luke 12:31 But rather seek you the kingdom of God; and all these things will be added to you.
Luke 12:32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Luke 12:33 Sell that you have, and give; provide yourselves bags which grow not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts.
Luke 12:34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Luke 12:35 Be dressed for service, and have your lights burning;
Luke 12:36 and you yourselves like to men that wait for their lord, when he returns from the wedding; that when he comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately.
Luke 12:37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he comes will find watching: truthfully I say to you, that he will dress himself, and make them to sit down to eat, and will come out and serve them.
Luke 12:38 And if he comes in the second watch, or comes in the third watch, and finds them so, blessed are those servants.
Luke 12:39 But know this; that if the owner of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have permitted his house to be broken into.
Luke 12:40 Therefore be ready also: for the Son of man comes at a season when you think not.
Luke 12:41 Then Peter said to Him, Lord, speak you this parable to us, or even to all?
Luke 12:42 And the Lord said, who then is that faithful and wise steward, who his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?
Luke 12:43 Blessed is that servant, who his lord when he comes will find so doing.
Luke 12:44 Truly I say to you, that he will make him ruler over all that he has.
Luke 12:45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and will begin to beat the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
Luke 12:46 the lord of that servant will come in a day when he looks not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him to pieces, and will appoint him his portion with the unfaithful.
Luke 12:47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, is going to be beaten with many stripes.
Luke 12:48 But he that did not know, and did commit things worthy of stripes, will be beaten with few stripes. For to whomever much is given, of him will much is required: and to who men have committed much, of him they will ask even more.
Luke 12:49 I have come to send fire on the land; and what I desire is it to be already kindled?
Luke 12:50 But I have an immersion to be immersed with; and how restricted I am until it is complete!
Luke 12:51 You suppose that I am come to give peace on the land? I tell you, no; but rather division:
Luke 12:52 for from now on there will be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
Luke 12:53 The father will be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
Luke 12:54 And He said also to the people, when you see a cloud rise out of the west, immediately you say, there comes a shower; and so it is.
Luke 12:55 And when you see the south wind blow, you say, there will be heat; and it comes to pass.
Luke 12:56 You hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky and of the land; but how is it that you do not discern this time?
Luke 12:57 Yes, and why even among yourselves do you not judge what is right?
Luke 12:58 When you go with your adversary to the judge, as you are on the way, try hard to reconcile that you may be delivered from him; unless he take you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer cast you into prison.
Luke 12:59 I tell you, you will not leave there, until you have paid the very last coin.
Chapter 13
Luke 13:1 There were present at that season some that told Him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
Luke 13:2 And Jesus answering said to them, suppose you that these Galileans were sinners above all the Galileans, because they permitted such things?
Luke 13:3 I tell you, No: but, unless you repent, you will all perish in a similar manner.
Luke 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon who the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think you that they were sinners above all men that dwelled in Jerusalem?
Luke 13:5 I tell you, No: but, unless you repent, you will all perish in a similar manner.
Luke 13:6 He spoke also this parable; a certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit from it, and found none.
Luke 13:7 Then said he to the man of his vineyard, behold, these three years I came seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why does it occupy the land?
Luke 13:8 He answered and said to him, Lord, let it alone this year also, until I will dig about it, and fertilize it:
Luke 13:9 and if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that you will cut it down.
Luke 13:10 Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
Luke 13:11 And behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over, and could in no way raise herself up.
Luke 13:12 But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him, and said to her, woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.
Luke 13:13 Then He laid His hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
Luke 13:14 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day, and said to the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: Therefore on them come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.
Luke 13:15 The Lord then answered him, and said, you hypocrite, does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead him away to water?
Luke 13:16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, who Satan has bound, look, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?
Luke 13:17 When He had said these things, all His adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.
Luke 13:18 Then said He, unto what is the kingdom of God like, and to what will I compare it?
Luke 13:19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and became a great tree; and the birds of the air lodged in the branches of it.
Luke 13:20 And again He said, what will I liken the kingdom of God?
Luke 13:21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened.
Luke 13:22 So he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
Luke 13:23 Then said one to him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And He said to them,
Luke 13:24 Strive to enter in at the narrow gate: for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and will not be able.
Luke 13:25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and has shut to the door, and you begin to stand outside, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us; and he will answer and say to you, I know you not, nor from where you are from:
Luke 13:26 Then will you begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in your presence, and you have taught in our streets.
Luke 13:27 But he will say, I tell you, I know you not, nor from where you are; depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.
Luke 13:28 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you will see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves cast out.
Luke 13:29 For they will come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and will sit down in the kingdom of God.
Luke 13:30 And, behold, there are last which will be first, and there are first which will be last.
Luke 13:31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying to Him, Get You out, and depart from here: for Herod will murder You.
Luke 13:32 And He said to them, you go and tell that fox, behold, I cast out demons, and I do healing today and the next day, and the third day I will reach my goal.
Luke 13:33 Nevertheless I must walk today, and the next day, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish outside of Jerusalem.
Luke 13:34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which murder the prophets, and stone them that are sent to you; how often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen does gather her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
Luke 13:35 Behold, your house is left to you desolate: and truthfully I say to you, you will not see Me, until the time comes when you will say, blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord!
Chapter 14
Luke 14:1 And it came to pass, as He went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath day, that they watched Him.
Luke 14:2 And, behold, there was a certain man before Him who had water retention.
Luke 14:3 And Jesus answering spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?
Luke 14:4 But they held their peace. And He took him, and healed him, and let him go;
Luke 14:5 and answered them, and said, which of you having a son or an ox that has fallen into a pit, and will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?
Luke 14:6 Yet they could not answer Him again about these things.
Luke 14:7 So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the chief places; saying to them.
Luke 14:8 When you are invited by anyone to a wedding, sit not down in the highest place; unless a more honorable man than you be invited by him;
Luke 14:9 and he that invited you and him comes and says to you, Give this man place; and you begin with shame to take the lowest place.
Luke 14:10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that invited you comes, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher: then will you have glory in the presence of them that sit at food with you.
Luke 14:11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled; and he that humbles himself will be exalted.
Luke 14:12 Then said He also to him that invited Him, when you make a brunch or a supper, ask not your friends, nor your brothers, neither your relatives, nor your rich neighbors; unless they also invite you again, and a repayment be made.
Luke 14:13 But when you make a feast, call the poor, the dismembered, the lame, and the blind:
Luke 14:14 and you will be blessed; for they cannot repay you: for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.
Luke 14:15 When one of them that sat to eat with Him heard these things, he said to Him, Blessed is he who will eat bread in the kingdom of God.
Luke 14:16 Then said He to him, a certain man made a great dinner, and invited many:
Luke 14:17 and sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were invited, come; for all things are now ready.
Luke 14:18 And they all with one voice began to make excuse. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of land, and I must go and see it: I pray you have me excused.
Luke 14:19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to try them: I pray you have me excused.
Luke 14:20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
Luke 14:21 So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, and the dismembered, and the lame, and the blind.
Luke 14:22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as you have commanded, and yet there is room.
Luke 14:23 And the lord said to the servant, go out into the streets and narrow ways, and pressure them to come in, that my house may be filled.
Luke 14:24 For I say to you, that none of those men who were invited will taste of my dinner.
Luke 14:25 And there went great multitudes with Him: and He turned, and said to them,
Luke 14:26 if anyone comes to Me, and hates not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yes and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
Luke 14:27 And whoever does not bear his cross, and come after Me, cannot be My disciple.
Luke 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits not down first, and counts the cost, whether he has sufficient money to finish it?
Luke 14:29 Unless, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
Luke 14:30 saying, this man began to build, and was not able to finish.
Luke 14:31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sits not down first, and consults whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand?
Luke 14:32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an ambassador, and asks conditions of peace.
Luke 14:33 So likewise, whoever of you that forsakes not all that he has, he cannot be My disciple.
Luke 14:34 Salt is good: but if the salt has lost its savor, with what will it be seasoned?
Luke 14:35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
Chapter 15
Luke 15:1 Then came near to Him all the tax collectors and sinners to hear Him.
Luke 15:2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, this man receives sinners, and eats with them.
Luke 15:3 And He spoke this parable to them, saying,
Luke 15:4 what man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after that whom is lost, until he find it?
Luke 15:5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
Luke 15:6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, rejoice with me; for I have found my lost sheep.
Luke 15:7 I say to you, that likewise joy will be in heaven over one sinner that repents, more than over ninety-nine righteous ones, who need no repentance.
Luke 15:8 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, does not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she finds it?
Luke 15:9 And when she has found it, she calls her friends and her neighbors together, saying, rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents.
Luke 15:11 And He said, a certain man had two sons:
Luke 15:12 and the younger of them said to his father, father, give me my share of the estate. And he divided his property among them.
Luke 15:13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his wealth with wild living.
Luke 15:14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
Luke 15:15 And he went and hired himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed pigs.
Luke 15:16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the husks that the pigs did eat: and no man gave to him.
Luke 15:17 And when he came to himself, he said, how many hired servants of my fathers’ have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger
Luke 15:18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you,
Luke 15:19 and am no more worthy to be called your son: make me as one of your hired servants.
Luke 15:20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
Luke 15:21 And the son said to him, father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight, and am no more worthy to be called your son.
Luke 15:22 But the father said to his servants, Bring out the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and sandals on his feet:
Luke 15:23 and bring the fatted calf here, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
Luke 15:24 for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to rejoice.
Luke 15:25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew close to the house, he heard music and dancing.
Luke 15:26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
Luke 15:27 And he said to him, your brother has come; and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safe and sound.
Luke 15:28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore his father came out, and entreated him.
Luke 15:29 And he answered and said to his father, look, these many years I did serve you, neither have I disobeyed at any time your commandment: and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might rejoice with my friends:
Luke 15:30 but as soon as this your son was come, who has devoured your living with harlots, you have killed for him the fatted calf.
Luke 15:31 And he said to him, son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.
Luke 15:32 It was right that we should rejoice, and be glad: for this your brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
Chapter 16
Luke 16:1 And He said also to His disciples, there was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused by him of wasting his possessions.
Luke 16:2 And he called him, and said to him, how is it that I hear this of you? Give an account of your stewardship; for you may be no longer steward.
Luke 16:3 Then the steward said within himself, what will I do? For my lord takes away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
Luke 16:4 I know what I may do, that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.
Luke 16:5 So he called each one of his lord’s debtors to him, and said to the first, how much do you owe to my lord?
Luke 16:6 And he said, A hundred measures of oil. And he said to him, take your bill, and sit down quickly, and write payment for fifty.
Luke 16:7 Then he said to another, and how much do you owe? And he said, a hundred measures of wheat. And he said to him, take your bill, and write a bill for eighty.
Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had acted shrewdly: for the children of this [Old Covenant Age] are in their generation shrewder than the children of light.
Luke 16:9 And I say to you, make yourselves friends by means of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when you fail, you may be received into perpetual dwellings.
Luke 16:10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
Luke 16:11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
Luke 16:12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who will give you that which is your own?
Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; Or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Luke 16:14 And the Pharisees also, who were greedy, heard all these things: and sneered at Him.
Luke 16:15 And He said to them, you are they who justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
Luke 16:16 The Law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and all do violence against it.
Luke 16:17 For it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one small mark of the Law to fail.
Luke 16:18 Whoever divorces his wife, and marries another, commits adultery: and whoever marries her that is divorced from her husband commits adultery.
Luke 16:19 There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and dined luxuriously every day:
Luke 16:20 and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores,
Luke 16:21 and wanting to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
Luke 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luke 16:23 and in the unseen realm he lifts up his eyes, being in torment, and sees Abraham far off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Luke 16:24 And he cried and said, father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
Luke 16:25 But Abraham said, son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: But now he is comforted, and you are tormented.
Luke 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass to us that would come from there.
Luke 16:27 Then he said, therefore I pray you, father, that you would send him to my father’s house:
Luke 16:28 for I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, unless they also come to this place of torment.
Luke 16:29 Abraham says to him, they have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
Luke 16:30 And he said, no, father Abraham: but if one went to them from the dead, they will repent.
Luke 16:31 And he said to him, if they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Chapter 17
Luke 17:1 Then said He to the disciples, it is impossible but that offenses will come: but woe to him, through who they come!
Luke 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should stumble one of these little ones.
Luke 17:3 Take heed to yourselves: if your brother trespass against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.
Luke 17:4 And if he trespass against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turns again to you, saying, I repent; you will forgive him.
Luke 17:5 And the apostles said to the Lord, Increase our faith.
Luke 17:6 And the Lord said, if you had faith as a grain of mustard seed, you might say to this mulberry tree, be plucked up by the root, and be you planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
Luke 17:7 But whom of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say to him, when he has come in from the field, Go and sit down to eat?
Luke 17:8 Yet will not rather say to him, Make ready with which I may dine, and serve me, until I have eaten and drunk; and afterward you will eat and drink?
Luke 17:9 Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not.
Luke 17:10 So likewise you, when you will have done all those things which are commanded you, say, we are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
Luke 17:11 And it came to pass, as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
Luke 17:12 And as he entered into a certain village, there ten men that were lepers met Him who stood far off:
Luke 17:13 then they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!
Luke 17:14 And when He saw them, He said to them, go show yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
Luke 17:15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
Luke 17:16 so he fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
Luke 17:17 Jesus answered and said, were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
Luke 17:18 They were not found that returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner.
Luke 17:19 And He said to him, arise, go your way: your faith has made you whole.
Luke 17:20 When the Pharisees demanded of Him saying, when will the kingdom of God come? He answered them and said, the kingdom of God does not come with observation:
Luke 17:21 neither will they say, look here! Or, look there! For, behold, the kingdom of God is inside you.
Luke 17:22 And He said to the disciples, the days will come, when you will want to see one of the days of the Son of man, and you will not see it.
Luke 17:23 And they will say to you, see here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.
Luke 17:24 For as the lightning, that lightens out of the one part under the heavens, shines to the other part under the heavens; so also will the Son of man be in His day.
Luke 17:25 But first He must suffer many things, and be rejected by this generation.
Luke 17:26 As it was in the days of Noah, so will it also be in the days of the Son of man.
Luke 17:27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
Luke 17:28 In the same way as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;
Luke 17:29 but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from the heavens, and destroyed them all.
Luke 17:30 Even so will it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
Luke 17:31 In that day, he who will be on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not come down to grab them: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.
Luke 17:32 Remember Lot’s wife.
Luke 17:33 Whoever will seek to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life will preserve it.
Luke 17:34 I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed; the one will be taken, and the other will be left.
Luke 17:35 Two will be grinding together; the one will be taken, and the other left.
Luke 17:36 Two will be in the field; one will be taken, and the other left.
Luke 17:37 And they answered and said to Him, where, Lord? And He said to them, wherever the dead body is, there will the eagles be gathered together!
Chapter 18
Luke 18:1 And He spoke a parable to them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not lose heart;
Luke 18:2 saying, there was in a city a judge, who feared not God, neither regarded man:
Luke 18:3 and there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, Avenge me of my adversary.
Luke 18:4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, though I fear not God, nor regard man;
Luke 18:5 yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, unless by her continual coming she wearies me.
Luke 18:6 Then the Lord said, hear what the unjust judge says.
Luke 18:7 And will not God avenge his own elect, who cry day and night to Him, though He bears long with them?
Luke 18:8 I tell you that He will avenge them soon. Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, will he find that kind of faith on the land?
Luke 18:9 Also He spoke this parable to certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Luke 18:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax collector.
Luke 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed so with himself, God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are, extortionists, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.
Luke 18:12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
Luke 18:13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but beat on his chest, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Luke 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone that exalts himself will be humbled; and he that humbles himself will be exalted.
Luke 18:15 And they brought to Him also infants, that He would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
Luke 18:16 But Jesus called them to Him, and said, permit little children to come to Me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
Luke 18:17 Truthfully I say to you, whoever will not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will in no way enter into it.
Luke 18:18 Then a certain ruler asked him, and said, good Master, what should I do to inherit infinite life?
Luke 18:19 And Jesus said to him, why do you call Me good? No one is good, except one, that is, God.
Luke 18:20 You know the commandments, do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not bear false witness, honor your father and your mother.
Luke 18:21 So he said, all these have I kept from my youth up.
Luke 18:22 Now when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, yet lack you one thing: sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven: and come, follow Me.
Luke 18:23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
Luke 18:24 So when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, He said, how hard it is for those that have riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
Luke 18:25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Luke 18:26 And they that heard it said, who then can be saved?
Luke 18:27 And He said, the things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
Luke 18:28 Then Peter said, look, we have left all and followed You.
Luke 18:29 And He said to them, truthfully I say to you, there is no man that has left house, or parents, or brothers, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake,
Luke 18:30 who will not receive manifold more in this opportune time, and in the New Covenant Age to come, life infinitely.
Luke 18:31 Then He gathered to Him the twelve, and said to them, behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man will be fulfilled.
Luke 18:32 For He will be delivered to the people, and will be mocked, and spitefully treated, and spit on:
Luke 18:33 and they will whip Him, and put Him to death: and the third day He will rise again.
Luke 18:34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hidden from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
Luke 18:35 And it came to pass, that as He was come close to Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the wayside begging:
Luke 18:36 for hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
Luke 18:37 So they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passes by.
Luke 18:38 Then he cried, saying, Jesus, You Son of David, have mercy on me!
Luke 18:39 They who went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, You Son of David, have mercy on me!
Luke 18:40 So Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought to Him: and when he had come near, He asked him, and
Luke 18:41 said; what do you want Me to do for you? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
Luke 18:42 And Jesus said to him, receive your sight: your faith has saved you.
Luke 18:43 Immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God!
Chapter 19
Luke 19:1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
Luke 19:2 Now, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, who was chief among the tax collectors, and he was rich.
Luke 19:3 So he sought to see Jesus who He was; and could not for the crowd, because he was short.
Luke 19:4 Then he ran before, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him: for He was about to pass that way.
Luke 19:5 When Jesus came to the place, He looked up, and saw him, and said to him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for today I must stay at your house.
Luke 19:6 So he made haste, and came down, and received Him joyfully.
Luke 19:7 But when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, that He had gone to be the guest of a man whom is a sinner.
Luke 19:8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said to the Lord: behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him four-fold.
Luke 19:9 And Jesus said to him, this day has salvation come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.
Luke 19:10 For the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Luke 19:11 Then as they heard these things, He added and spoke a parable, because He was close to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God was about to appear.
Luke 19:12 Therefore He said, a certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
Luke 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten talents, and said to them, do business until I come.
Luke 19:14 But His citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, we will not have this man to reign over us.
Luke 19:15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called to him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
Luke 19:16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, your talent has gained ten talents.
Luke 19:17 And he said to him, well done, you good servant: because you have been faithful in a very little, have you authority over ten cities.
Luke 19:18 And the second came, saying, Lord, your talent has gained five talents.
Luke 19:19 And he said likewise to him, you be also over five cities.
Luke 19:20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is your talent, which I have kept safe in a piece of cloth:
Luke 19:21 for I feared you, because you are a harsh man: you take up that which you did not lay down, and reap that which you did not sow.
Luke 19:22 And he said to him, out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was a harsh man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping what I did not sow:
Luke 19:23 why then did you not put my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required my own with interest?
Luke 19:24 And he said to them that stood by, take from him the talent, and give it to him that has ten talents.
Luke 19:25 And they said to him, Lord, he has ten talents.
Luke 19:26 For I say to you, everyone who has more will be given; and from him that has not, even that which he has will be taken away from him.
Luke 19:27 But as for my enemies, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here, and slay them before me.
Luke 19:28 When He had said this, He went on ahead, ascending up to Jerusalem.
Luke 19:29 And it came to pass, when He had come close to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called, the Mount of Olives. He sent two of His disciples,
Luke 19:30 saying, you go into the village opposite you; in which at your entering you will find a colt tied, on which never man sat: untie him, and bring him here.
Luke 19:31 And if any man ask you, why do you untie him? You will say this to him, because the Lord has need of him.
Luke 19:32 Then they that were sent went their way, and found just as He had said to them.
Luke 19:33 So while they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, why are you loosing the colt?
Luke 19:34 And they said, the Lord has need of him.
Luke 19:35 Then they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments on the colt, and they set Jesus on him.
Luke 19:36 As He went, they spread their clothes on the way.
Luke 19:37 When He had come close, even now at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
Luke 19:38 saying, blessed is the King that comes in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest!
Luke 19:39 So some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said to Him, Master, rebuke Your disciples.
Luke 19:40 But He answered and said to them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
Luke 19:41 When He had come near, He beheld the city, and wept over it,
Luke 19:42 saying, if you had known, even you, at least in this your day, the things which belong to your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
Luke 19:43 For the days will come on you, that your enemies will build an embankment about you, and encircle you, and close you in on every side,
Luke 19:44 and will lay you even with the ground, and your children within you; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another; because you knew not the time of your visitation.
Luke 19:45 And He went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold in it, and them that bought;
Luke 19:46 saying to them, it is written, My house is the house of prayer: But you have made it a den of thieves.
Luke 19:47 So He taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief men of the people sought to destroy Him,
Luke 19:48 but could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear Him.
Chapter 20
Luke 20:1 And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came on Him with the elders,
Luke 20:2 and spoke to Him, saying, tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or whom is He that gave You this authority?
Luke 20:3 So He answered and said to them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer Me:
Luke 20:4 the baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?
Luke 20:5 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, if we will say, from heaven; He will say, why then did you not believe him?
Luke 20:6 But and if we say, of men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
Luke 20:7 Then they answered, that they could not tell from where it was.
Luke 20:8 And Jesus said to them, neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
Luke 20:9 Then He began to speak to the people this parable; a certain man planted a vineyard, and leased it to some vinedressers, and went into a far country for a long time.
Luke 20:10 And at the appropriate time he sent a servant to the tenants, that they should give him some of the fruit of the vineyard: but the tenants beat him, and sent him away empty.
Luke 20:11 Again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
Luke 20:12 Yet again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
Luke 20:13 Then said the lord of the vineyard, what should I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will respect him when they see him.
Luke 20:14 But when the tenants saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, this is the heir: Come, let us murder him, that the inheritance may be ours.
Luke 20:15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and murdered him. Therefore what will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
Luke 20:16 He will come and destroy these tenants, and will give the vineyard to others. When they heard it, they said, God forbid!
Luke 20:17 Yet He beheld them, and said, what is this then that is written, the stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the chief cornerstone?
Luke 20:18 Whoever will fall on that stone will be broken; but on whomever it will fall, it will grind him to powder.
Luke 20:19 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on Him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that He had spoken this parable against them.
Luke 20:20 And they watched Him, and sent out spies, who should pretend themselves just men that they may take hold of His words, that so they may hand Him over to the government and authority of the governor.
Luke 20:21 And they asked Him, saying, Master, we know that You say and teach rightly, neither do You show personal favoritism, but teach the way of God with reality.
Luke 20:22 Is it lawful for us to pay tribute to Caesar, or not?
Luke 20:23 But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them, why do you tempt Me?
Luke 20:24 Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription is on it? They answered and said, Caesar’s.
Luke 20:25 And He said to them, therefore render to Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and to God the things which are God’s.
Luke 20:26 Then they could not trap His words in front of the people: and they marveled at His answer, and were silenced.
Luke 20:27 Then certain of the Sadducees came to Him, who deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked Him,
Luke 20:28 saying, Master, Moses wrote to us, if any man’s brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should marry his wife, and raise up children to his brother.
Luke 20:29 Therefore there were seven brothers: and the first had a wife, and died without children.
Luke 20:30 And the second married her, and he died childless.
Luke 20:31 And the third married her; and in the identical way the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
Luke 20:32 Last of all, the woman died also.
Luke 20:33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? For all seven had her as a wife.
Luke 20:34 Then Jesus answered and said to them, the children of this Old Covenant Age marry, and are given in marriage:
Luke 20:35 But they who will be counted worthy to gain that New Covenant Age, and the resurrection out from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
Luke 20:36 neither can they die any longer: for they are similar to the angels; and are the sons of God, being the sons of the resurrection.
Luke 20:37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Luke 20:38 For He is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live to Him.
Luke 20:39 Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, You have spoken well.
Luke 20:40 And after that they dared not ask Him any question at all.
Luke 20:41 And He said to them, how can they say that the Christ is David’s son?
Luke 20:42 Now David himself said in the book of Psalms, the LORD said to my Lord, sit at My right hand,
Luke 20:43 until I make Your enemies Your footstool.
Luke 20:44 Therefore David calls him Lord, how is He then his son?
Luke 20:45 Then in the hearing of all the people He said to His disciples,
Luke 20:46 Beware of the scribes, who want to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
Luke 20:47 who devour widows’ houses, and for a show make long prayers: the same will receive the greater condemnation.
Chapter 21
Luke 21:1 And He looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.
Luke 21:2 And He saw also a certain poor widow casting into that place two small coins.
Luke 21:3 And He said, in reality I say to you, that this poor widow has cast in more than everyone:
Luke 21:4 for all these have out from their abundance cast in to the offerings of God: but she out of her deficiency has cast in all that she had to live.
Luke 21:5 And as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts, He said,
Luke 21:6 as for these things which you behold, the days will come, in which there will not be left one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.
Luke 21:7 Then they asked Him, saying, Master, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to come to pass?
Luke 21:8 And He said, take heed that you are not deceived: for many will come in My name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draws near: do not go after them.
Luke 21:9 But when you will hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not yet.
Luke 21:10 Then He said to them, nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:
Luke 21:11 and great earthquakes will occur in different places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs will there be from the heavens.
Luke 21:12 But before all these, they will lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake.
Luke 21:13 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony.
Luke 21:14 Therefore settle it in your hearts, not to think ahead before making your defense:
Luke 21:15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict nor resist.
Luke 21:16 You will be betrayed both by parents, and brothers, and relatives, and friends; and some of you will be put to death.
Luke 21:17 And you will be hated of all men for My name’s sake.
Luke 21:18 Not even a hair of your head will perish.
Luke 21:19 In your endurance you gain your souls.
Luke 21:20 For when you will see Jerusalem surrounded with armies, then know that the desolation of it is close.
Luke 21:21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; and let those who are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countryside enter into her.
Luke 21:22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled!
Luke 21:23 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that nurse, in those days! For there will be great distress in the land, and wrath on this people.
Luke 21:24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be taken away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations, until the times of the nations be fulfilled.
Luke 21:25 And there will be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and on the land with anguish among nations, in perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Luke 21:26 men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking for those things which are coming on the Roman world: for the powers of heaven will be shaken.
Luke 21:27 And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and raise your heads; for your redemption approaches.
Luke 21:29 And He spoke to them a parable; behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
Luke 21:30 when they are already budding, you see and know of yourselves that summer is now close at hand.
Luke 21:31 So likewise you, when you see these things come to pass, know you that the kingdom of God is close at hand.
Luke 21:32 Truthfully I say to you, this generation will not pass away, until all be fulfilled.
Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away: but My words will not pass away.
Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, unless at any time your hearts be overcharged with dissipation, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come on you unawares.
Luke 21:35 For as a snare will it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole land.
Luke 21:36 Therefore watch you, and pray always, that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that are about to come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man!
Luke 21:37 And in the day time He was teaching in the temple; and at night He went out, and stayed on the mount that is called the Mount of Olives.
Luke 21:38 So all the people came early in the morning to Him in the temple, for to hear Him.
Chapter 22
Luke 22:1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew close, which is called the Passover.
Luke 22:2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might murder Him; for they feared the people.
Luke 22:3 Then Satan entered into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being one of the twelve.
Luke 22:4 And he went his way, and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them.
Luke 22:5 So they were glad, and promised to give him money.
Luke 22:6 And he agreed, and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude.
Luke 22:7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed.
Luke 22:8 And He sent Peter and John, saying, go and prepare us the Passover that we may eat.
Luke 22:9 And they said to Him, where do You want us to prepare it?
Luke 22:10 Then He said to them, behold, when you have entered into the city, there will a man meet you, carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he enters in.
Luke 22:11 And you will say to the master of the house, the Master says to you, where is the guest chamber, where I will eat the Passover with My disciples?
Luke 22:12 Then he will show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
Luke 22:13 And they went, and found as He had said to them: and they made ready the Passover.
Luke 22:14 When the hour came, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him.
Luke 22:15 Then He said to them, with earnest desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer:
Luke 22:16 for I say to you, I will not anymore eat of it, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
Luke 22:17 And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, take this, and divide it among yourselves:
Luke 22:18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God has come.
Luke 22:19 And He took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it, and gave to them, and said, this is My body which is given for you: do this in remembrance of Me.
Luke 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, this cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
Luke 22:21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrays Me is with Me on the table.
Luke 22:22 And truly the Son of man goes, as it was determined: But woe to that man by who He is betrayed!
Luke 22:23 Then they began to inquire among themselves, whom of them it was that was about to do this thing.
Luke 22:24 For there was also a strife among them, whom of them should be accounted the greatest.
Luke 22:25 And He said to them, the rulers of the nations exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority on them are called benefactors.
Luke 22:26 But you will not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is leading, as he that does serve.
Luke 22:27 For which is greater, he that sits at the table, or he that serves? Is not he that sits at the table? But I am among you as One that serves.
Luke 22:28 You are they who have continued with Me in My temptations.
Luke 22:29 And I appoint to you a kingdom, as My Father has appointed to Me;
Luke 22:30 that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith fail not: and when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.
Luke 22:33 But he said to Him, Lord, I am ready to go with You, both into prison, and to death.
Luke 22:34 And He said, I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, before that you will deny Me three times that you do not know Me.
Luke 22:35 Then He said to them, when I sent you without money bag, and pack, and sandals, lacked you anything? And they said nothing.
Luke 22:36 Then He said to them, but now, he that has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise his pack: and he that has no sword, let him sell his cloak, and buy one.
Luke 22:37 For I say to you, that which is written must yet be fulfilled in Me, and He was counted among the lawless: for the things concerning Me have a goal.
Luke 22:38 So they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And He said to them, it is enough.
Luke 22:39 And He came out, and went, as He was accustomed, to the Mount of Olives; and His disciples also followed Him.
Luke 22:40 When He was at the place, He said to them, pray that you enter not into temptation.
Luke 22:41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
Luke 22:42 and said, Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me: nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.
Luke 22:43 Then there appeared an angel to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.
Luke 22:44 And being in agony He prayed more earnestly: and His sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Luke 22:45 When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping for sorrow,
Luke 22:46 Then said to them, why sleep you? Rise and pray, unless you enter into temptation.
Luke 22:47 While He yet spoke, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.
Luke 22:48 But Jesus said to him, Judas, do you betray the Son of man with a kiss?
Luke 22:49 When they who were about him saw what would follow, they said to Him, Lord, will we strike with the sword?
Luke 22:50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
Luke 22:51 But Jesus answered and said, no more of this! And He touched his ear, and healed him.
Luke 22:52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, who had come to Him, be you come out, as against a thief, with swords and clubs?
Luke 22:53 When I was with you each day in the temple, you stretched out no hand against Me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
Luke 22:54 Then they took Him, and led Him, and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed far off.
Luke 22:55 When they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and had sat down together, Peter sat down among them.
Luke 22:56 A certain servant girl beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked on him, and said, this man was also with Him.
Luke 22:57 But he denied Him, saying, Woman, I know Him not.
Luke 22:58 After a little while another saw him, and said, You are also of them. And Peter said, man, I am not.
Luke 22:59 And after about one hour had passed, another one insisted, and said, truly this fellow was also with Him: for he is a Galilean.
Luke 22:60 Then Peter said, man, I do not know what you say. Immediately, while he yet spoke, the rooster crowed.
Luke 22:61 Then the Lord turned, and looked on Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to Him, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.
Luke 22:62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
Luke 22:63 So the men that held Jesus mocked Him and struck Him.
Luke 22:64 When they had blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face, and asked Him, and said, prophesy, who is it that struck You?
Luke 22:65 For many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him.
Luke 22:66 As soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led Him into their council, saying,
Luke 22:67 are You the Christ? Tell us. And He said to them, if I tell you, you will not believe:
Luke 22:68 and if I also ask you, you will not answer Me, nor let Me go.
Luke 22:69 After this will the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
Luke 22:70 Then said they all, Are you then the Son of God? And He said to them, you say that I am.
Luke 22:71 So they said, what need do we have of any further witness? For we ourselves have heard of His own mouth.
Chapter 23
Luke 23:1 Then the whole multitude of them arose, and led Him to Pilate.
Luke 23:2 So they began to accuse Him, and said, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.
Luke 23:3 Then Pilate asked Him, saying, are you the King of the Jews? And He answered him and said, you say it.
Luke 23:4 Then Pilate said to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
Luke 23:5 But they were the insisting vigorously and said, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.
Luke 23:6 When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.
Luke 23:7 As soon as he knew that he belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
Luke 23:8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad: for he had desired to see Him for a long time, because he had heard many things about Him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by Him.
Luke 23:9 Then he questioned Him with many words; but He answered him nothing.
Luke 23:10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him.
Luke 23:11 Then Herod with his men of war treated Him with contempt, and mocked Him and arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him again to Pilate.
Luke 23:12 That same day Pilate and Herod became friends: for previously there was an enmity between them.
Luke 23:13 For Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
Luke 23:14 said to them, You have brought this man to me, as one that perverts the people: and, behold, I, having examined Him before you, have found no fault in this man concerning those things which you accuse Him:
Luke 23:15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, look, nothing worthy of death is done to Him.
Luke 23:16 Therefore I will punish Him, and release Him.
Luke 23:17 For he was obligated to release one to them at the feast.
Luke 23:18 But they all cried out at once, and said, away with this man, and release to us Barabbas!
Luke 23:19 Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, had been cast into prison.
Luke 23:20 Therefore Pilate, willing to release Jesus, spoke again to them.
Luke 23:21 But they cried, and said, Crucify Him, crucify Him!
Luke 23:22 Then he said to them the third time, why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason of death in Him: therefore I will punish Him, and let Him go.
Luke 23:23 But they were insistent with loud voices, demanding that He might be crucified. And their voices and of the chief priests prevailed.
Luke 23:24 So Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
Luke 23:25 Then he released to them him that for sedition and murder had been cast into prison, who they had wanted; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
Luke 23:26 Now as they led Him away, they laid hold on one Simon of Cyrene, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
Luke 23:27 A great company of people there followed Him, and of women, of whom also mourned and lamented for Him.
Luke 23:28 But Jesus turned to them and said, daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for Me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
Luke 23:29 For, behold, the days are coming, in which they will say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts which never nursed.
Luke 23:30 Then will they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
Luke 23:31 For if they do these things to a green tree, what will be done to the dry?
Luke 23:32 And there were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death.
Luke 23:33 When they had come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they do. And they parted His clothing, and cast lots.
Luke 23:35 So the people stood looking. And the rulers also with them sneered at Him, and said, He saved others; let Him save Himself, if He is Christ, the chosen of God.
Luke 23:36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming to Him, and offering Him sour wine,
Luke 23:37 and said, if You are the king of the Jews, save Yourself.
Luke 23:38 And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Luke 23:39 Then one of the criminals who was being hung hurled insults at Him, saying, if You are Christ, save Yourself and us.
Luke 23:40 But the other answered and rebuked him, saying, do you not fear God, seeing you are in the same condemnation?
Luke 23:41 Yet we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man has done nothing wrong.
Luke 23:42 Then he said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when You come into your kingdom.
Luke 23:43 Then Jesus said to him, truthfully I say to you today, you will be with Me in paradise.
Luke 23:44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.
Luke 23:45 For the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in the middle.
Luke 23:46 When Jesus had cried with a loud voice, He said, Father, into Your hands I entrust My spirit: and having said this, He breathed out.
Luke 23:47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, this man was certainly righteous!
Luke 23:48 For all the people that came together to that sight, looking at the things which were done, beat their chests, and returned.
Luke 23:49 But all his acquaintances, and the women that followed Him from Galilee, stood far off, beholding these things.
Luke 23:50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council; and he was a good man, and just:
Luke 23:51 the same had not consented to the counsel and their actions; He was from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: whom also himself was expecting the kingdom of God.
Luke 23:52 This man went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
Luke 23:53 So he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was cut in stone, in which never man before was laid.
Luke 23:54 And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drew on.
Luke 23:55 So the women also, who came with Him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the tomb, and how His body was laid.
Luke 23:56 Then they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment.
Chapter 24
Luke 24:1 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Luke 24:2 Yet they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.
Luke 24:3 And they entered in, and didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus.
Luke 24:4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
Luke 24:5 as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the ground, they said to them, why seek you the living among the dead?
Luke 24:6 He is not here, but is risen: Remember how He spoke to You when He was yet in Galilee,
Luke 24:7 saying, the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
Luke 24:8 Then they remembered His words,
Luke 24:9 and returned from the tomb, and told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.
Luke 24:10 It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women who were with them, who told these things to the apostles.
Luke 24:11 But their words seemed to them as make believe, and they believed them not.
Luke 24:12 Then arose Peter, and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which had come to pass.
Luke 24:13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about seven miles.
Luke 24:14 So they talked together of all these things which had happened.
Luke 24:15 And it came to pass, that, while they conversed together and reasoned, Jesus Himself drew near, and went with them.
Luke 24:16 But their eyes were restrained, that they did not know Him.
Luke 24:17 And He said to them, what manner of discussion is this that you are exchanging, as you walk, and are sad?
Luke 24:18 Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered and said to Him, are you only a stranger in Jerusalem, and have not known the things which have come to pass there in these days?
Luke 24:19 So He said to them, what things? And they said to Him, concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
Luke 24:20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and have crucified Him.
Luke 24:21 But we trusted that it was He who was about to redeem Israel: and beside all this, today is the third day since these things happened.
Luke 24:22 Yes, and certain women also of our group made us amazed, which were at the tomb early this morning;
Luke 24:23 when they didn’t find His body, they came, and said, that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive.
Luke 24:24 And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it even so as the women had said: but they didn’t see Him.
Luke 24:25 Then He said to them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Luke 24:26 ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory?
Luke 24:27 Then beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
Luke 24:28 Then they drew close to the village, to where they went: and He made as though he would have gone further.
Luke 24:29 But they constrained Him, saying, Stay with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And He went in to stay with them.
Luke 24:30 And it came to pass, as He sat to eat with them, He took bread, and blessed it, and broke, and gave to them.
Luke 24:31 Then their eyes were opened, and they knew Him; and He vanished out of their sight.
Luke 24:32 Then they said one to another, did not our hearts burn within us, while He talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the Scriptures?
Luke 24:33 So they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
Luke 24:34 and said, the Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!
Luke 24:35 And they told what things were done on the way, and how He was known of them in breaking of bread.
Luke 24:36 Now as they so spoke, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said, peace to you.
Luke 24:37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
Luke 24:38 And He said to them, why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?
Luke 24:39 Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself: handle Me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see I have.
Luke 24:40 When He had so spoken, He showed them His hands and His feet.
Luke 24:41 While they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, He said to them, have you any food here?
Luke 24:42 So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish, and of a honeycomb.
Luke 24:43 And He took it, and did eat before them.
Luke 24:44 Then He said to them, these are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning Me.
Luke 24:45 Then He opened their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures,
Luke 24:46 then said to them, thus it is written, and thus it was proper for Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
Luke 24:47 so that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luke 24:48 You are witnesses of these things.
Luke 24:49 Behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you: but stay in the city, until you are clothed with power from on high.
Luke 24:50 And He led them out as far as to Bethany, and He lifted up His hands, and blessed them.
Luke 24:51 And it came to pass, while He blessed them, He was parted from them, and ascended into the heavens.
Luke 24:52 Then they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
Luke 24:53 and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
